I am Ansah Amir with 25 years of age and live in Lahore, Pakistan. In my family, I was the first one to get diagnosed with Type1, that too, at the age of 11.
I was a kid back then, eliminating sugar, sweets & chocolates was a bad news for me. My parents were quite in a sorrow and were highly depressed after knowing about my newly developed condition. While on the other hand I was strong enough to make them not lose hope. They became my strength and helped me in managing my diabetes.
Visiting my doctor was the biggest challenge as in the diabetic centre where I went for my usual check-up had elder people with T2 diabetes as patients, mostly. They used to pity me on having diabetes at such a young age.
I want to let everyone know that I never allowed diabetes to hinder my way, let it be my schooling, travelling or enjoying with friends. Same goes for all my diabuddies.
My family has been my biggest support since the very start. They never let me down and are always there to boost up my confidence. My husband helps me through every condition whether it’s Hypoglycaemia, Hyperglycaemia, mood swings, or Hyperemesis Gravidarum (in pregnancy). I think, having so many supportive people around you is a great blessing either you have diabetes or not. Ahhh. Just don’t let the statement “log kya kahaingay” get to you as people are going to point you out no matter what. Diabetes do not make a difference. So this society needs to change. Remember YOU are the society. Live and let live.
