"The beginning may feel frightening, and there will be days when you want to give up. But believe in yourself, lean on those who love you, and trust Allah. With time, knowledge, and support, you will learn to live a beautiful and fulfilling life. Type 1 diabetes is a chapter of your story—it is never the ending. Type 1 diabetes may challenge your body, but it can never define your spirit. Every injection, every blood glucose check, and every difficult day is proof of a strength the world often cannot see. Keep believing, keep fighting, and never let diabetes steal your dreams." Says Fatima Batool, our young champ living with type 1 diabetes since last decade.
When Fatima was just nine years old, life changed in a way she could never have imagined. What began as constant tiredness, unquenchable thirst, sudden weight loss, and overwhelming weakness soon became a diagnosis that would shape the next chapter of her life: Type 1 diabetes (T1D).
At an age when most children were worrying about school, games, and making new friends, Fatima suddenly had to learn about insulin injections, blood glucose checks, and hospital visits. The diagnosis brought fear, confusion, and countless questions—not just for her, but for her entire family. None of them knew what the future would look like.
Over the last ten years, Fatima's journey has been anything but easy.
She has endured dangerous episodes of Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA), long hospital stays, sleepless nights, and countless moments when her body simply refused to cooperate. There were days when even getting out of bed felt like a battle. Balancing insulin doses, meals, studies, and everyday life often felt overwhelming, while the emotional burden of living with an invisible condition weighed heavily on her heart.
Perhaps the hardest part wasn't always the physical pain—it was feeling misunderstood. Many people couldn't see the constant calculations happening behind every meal, every outing, and every ordinary day. Few realized that living with type 1 diabetes means making hundreds of decisions every single day, often while carrying fears that remain invisible to everyone else.
Yet through every setback, Fatima found two sources of unwavering strength: her family and her faith in Allah.
When she felt exhausted, they lifted her up. When fear took over, they reminded her to keep going. Their love, prayers, and constant encouragement became the foundation that helped her face every challenge with courage.
As the years passed, Fatima discovered a life-changing truth: diabetes was not an enemy she could defeat—it was a companion she had to understand. The moment she stopped fighting its existence and started accepting it, everything began to change.
She became more mindful of her health, committed to regular glucose monitoring, timely insulin, healthy eating, and building routines that supported both her physical and emotional well-being. She also found comfort in connecting with others living with type 1 diabetes. Their shared experiences reminded her that she was never alone, and that hope grows stronger when it is shared.
Today, at 19 years old, Fatima looks back on a decade of living with type 1 diabetes with pride. The journey has tested her strength in countless ways, but it has also taught her resilience, patience, gratitude, and unwavering faith. Diabetes has become a part of her life—but it has never been the author of her story.
